Gavin
Gavin Carrier
Adult Pastor
I grew up in Vestal, New York and was a regular Sunday attender at a Lutheran Church. My faith in Christ was prodded by their Good Friday services and an occasional message which caught my attention. However, it wasn’t until my parent’s divorce until I really sensed the need for God in my life. This opened me up to attending an Evangelical Free Church that my sister had recently attended. The sermon that day was unpacking the Apostles’ Creed, a statement of faith that I recited every Sunday in the Lutheran church. For the first time in my life, faith in Christ became clear to me.

Since then, I have seen God do amazing things through my involvement in Young Life ministries while I was at Syracuse University. Most amazing was God’s work in finding me my Texas bride, Andrea, at one of Young Life’s summer camps. After graduation from Syracuse, I moved to Dallas to be near my still then future wife and attend Dallas Seminary. Andrea and I married in 1999 and we have two children: Avery 6 & Samuel 4.

Upon graduation from Dallas, I have spent the last 5 years as Pastor of discipleship at CrossRoads Community Church. It was an amazing opportunity to return to the area where I had been involved with Young Life ministry prior and to connect with my mentor Mick Keville. God used those 5 years in ministry to mold me and prepare me for my new position of Pastor of Adult ministries here at Faith Bible.

Now here at Faith Bible Church, Andrea and I are excited at the opportunity God has given us to help people connect to God and one another through men’s ministry, women’s ministry, small groups, and adult communities.

Ethan Collins
Missions & Outreach Pastor

Ethan comes to us with a tremendous amount of experience both in local ministry, international missions and relational business. After graduating from Texas A&M University, Ethan served Montgomery County and The Woodlands in Young Life for 10 years, eventually as Area Director. This, of course, involved myriad skills including relational ministry skills foremost but also volunteer recruitment, organization, communication and leadership skills on a high level. It was during these years of Young Life ministry that Ethan met and married his wife Amber.

In 2002, Amber and Ethan embarked on their next adventure and mutual passion, international missions. They uprooted from The Woodlands area and moved to Kijabe, Kenya to serve at the Rift Valley Academy Boarding School for international missionary kids as supported missionaries from Faith Bible Church. For two years they taught Bible classes, Spanish, and coached basketball and volleyball. Ethan also went on small evangelistic trips to nearby villages. He and Amber also served as dorm parents to 24 students from 13 countries, many of whom they still keep in contact with.

Upon arriving back in the States, Ethan and Amber came back to FBC and immediately started a family. Their son Emmett was born soon after their return and daughter Ava followed a few years later. At this point Ethan began another adventure in relational business and medical sales. He served Texas Home Medical as an account executive and Pfizer Pharmaceutical as a professional health-care representative in specific anti-infective medications. It was at this time with Ethan felt God's leading to seminary study, a desire he had identified long before. So in 2009 Ethan enrolled in Dallas Theological Seminary and is currently seeking a Masters in Christian Education with the hope of seeking a Doctorate in Ministry in the future.

Ethan and Amber joined our church's search process for a Missions and Outreach pastor late last year. And at the end of a very healthy search and interview process Ethan was the top candidate of the search committee. He and Amber prayerfully and graciously accepted the position and Ethan will begin his new role in an official capacity on May 15. Please pray for Ethan and his family as he embarks on his latest adventure in serving God and His church.

Youth Pastor
Pursuit Student Ministry · College Ministry
I grew up in a strong Christian home with great, Godly parents. Definitely one of my highlights growing up was the time I spent in youth ministry. Those years, and those leaders, really shaped me and taught me much about who God is and about His plan for my life.

My wife, Cathy, and I were married 20 years ago. We both have great testimonies of how God has loved and provided for us in our marriage, as parents, and in ministry. She is my best friend and my partner in this ministry. We truly have a unique relationship and love working in the lives of students together. We have been blessed to have three amazing kids; Chism – 16, Glendie – 13, and Josiah – 9. Needless to say, our home is always exciting…

I graduated from The University of North Texas in 1992 and worked in business for a few years before I decided to follow God’s call into working with students. I have been working with students for 15 years now and still love it.

My family and I came to Faith Bible Church in 2005 for me to serve as Youth Pastor. Cathy also serves as our student ministry’s Girls Ministry Director. My responsibilities include teaching and counseling students as well as event planning and student small group coordination.

Community Outreach & Facilities Pastor

I grew up in Waco Texas and attended Baylor University, graduating in 1967 with a BBA in Marketing.  After college, I spent the next six years as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force.  Later I flew corporate jets and then flew for World Airways for four years.  In 1983 I was hired by Southwest Airlines where I flew the Boeing 737 for 23 years until retiring in 2005.

Brenda and I have been married for almost 30 years (1980).  We had met several years earlier and I know that God used Brenda to begin drawing me back to Him after years of drifting away.  In 1984 we traveled to Korea to adopt our daughter, Amanda, who was three months old.  Two years later we also adopted our son Stephen, four months old, who was Korean as well.

I grew up in the Baptist church and it seemed like every time the doors were opened my family was there.  I was baptized on November 17, 1957 and I still recall that day as being one of the most exciting events of my life.  It was short lived though, because although I always believed in Him, it was over twenty years later before I began experiencing an insatiable desire to know Jesus and to follow His ways.  Although I got a late start, God has blessed me in many ways and opened doors to serve Him.  I was blessed to serve as a lay pastor for four years at our church in Dallas prior to moving to Houston.  I was honored to serve seven years with the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center as a volunteer, witnessing and mentoring youth at that facility.  At FBC, I served on the Missions committee for six years, the last two as Chairman.

After retiring from Southwest Airlines in November 2005 and taking almost a year off, I began working at Faith Bible Church as Facility Director.  Two years later I was commissioned as a Minister and named Community Outreach Pastor at FBC.  I believe God gives each of us a passion for our calling and I have certainly experienced that in Community Outreach.   Car Care is beginning its sixth year and it is just as rewarding today as it was six years ago.  The Samaritan Ministry is a new ministry at FBC and I am looking forward to see where God takes us in this outreach.

I was raised in Dallas, Texas by parents who knew God and cared deeply for my 2 sisters and me. When I was 14 I began to feel the Spirit drawing me into a relationship with Jesus Christ. So like any good people pleaser, I started to clean up my act in order to approach God, but realized after many months of trying that this was impossible. God got my attention and showed me my need for a Savior. After receiving Christ as my Savior, I began to really grow in my faith and committed my life to fulltime ministry. I can honestly say that I have wanted to do what I do today ever since I was a freshman in High School.

My musical interests began in the 5th grade when my mom signed me up to play trumpet in the band. It wasn’t what I really wanted to play. I wanted to play the drums. But I agreed and to my surprise began to really enjoy playing the trumpet. My love for singing began to develop in Jr. High. It was the cool thing to do and all of the pretty girls and cool guys were doing it so I gave it a shot. Playing the trumpet and singing carried me all the way through college. I received a degree in Church Music with an emphasis in Trumpet from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1991.

After graduating I came straight to The Woodlands to work with Faith Bible Church. It feels weird to me that I spent 18 years at home; 7 years in college; and now 18 years here at FBC. My life has been so enriched from all of the amazing people I have shared life with for all of these years. Truly this is home for me and I love waking up every day and making my way to this place to share in ministry with you.

On February 13th, 2004 I watched the most beautiful person in the world walk down a long isle and take my hand in marriage. I love Taye so much and I am so thankful for God’s perfecting timing in our lives. She was worth every second of the wait. We have 2 wonderful children named Moses (2 ½) and Milan (1) and they have brought so much joy along with a greater sense of our need for God and His wisdom.

I serve as Worship Pastor here at FBC which includes all the elements that are put together for our participation in the corporate worship of God. I love worshipping God with you and lifting up the name that is above every name, Jesus Christ.

Teaching Pastor

I grew up in a tiny little town in South Texas called Falls City. Looking back, it was a great place to grow up. My only brother Travis, five years younger than I, is a former Marine, husband to Brittany and happy dad to a yellow lab named Susie. He is a professional gunsmith. My parents still live in Falls City, as does my grandfather and several aunts and uncles.

I first heard the gospel as a first-semester freshman at Texas A&M University. I believed it and my life was radically changed almost overnight. I knew very quickly that God wanted me to serve in vocational ministry and that I would attend seminary. I also immediately began working with students as a volunteer in a local student ministry. That first summer I served at a Christian summer camp in Arkansas and taught the Bible for the very first time. It would become a monumental event in my life. The next summer I served as a summer intern at a church in The Woodlands, Texas, where I began to teach more and more. That one summer turned into two and a half more years of weekly ministry, commuting from College Station to The Woodlands, at one point, twice a week. Upon graduation, I joined the full-time staff of that church serving as the Senior High Student Pastor, a job which I did for another five years.

In the meantime, I met a beautiful Australian woman named Liza Staines in my own living room (she came over for a Bible Study). It turns out that she already loved Jesus and would soon fall in love with me, that is, only after I fell head-over-heels in love with her. Four months later, a ring. Nine months after that, a ceremony (November 2000). In 2003, Liza and I decided it was time for me to enter Dallas Theological Seminary. So we began what would become a rather long adventure in full-time school. All the while I traveled the country speaking for various groups in various settings, teaching the Bible. Our first son, Andrew, was born in 2004, and his younger sister, Isabel (Izzy), was born in 2005. Right before Andrew was born, we found our way to Faith Bible Church through some friends. We immediately felt more connected there than any church experience before. We felt loved and cared for, nurtured and encouraged, empowered and a part. It was home. I graduated from Dallas Seminary with a Masters in Theology from the New Testament Department in May of 2009. Second to family, my training at DTS has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

Only after serving as a part-time assistant to Student Pastor, Mark Cornelison, was I invited to join the full-time pastoral staff as a teaching pastor for Faith Bible Church. I could not have imagined a better job at a better church. It was a easy decision for Liza and I. I love being a part of the Faith Bible family, but I love being one of its servants even more.

Executive Pastor
Executive Pastor · Administration · Counseling & Family Ministry

I had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home with godly parents. I became a Christian as a child, but really began to grow in my faith during my senior year in high school. I attended the University of Southern California, with plans to go on to law school. But God had other plans. He used the turmoil of the early seventies and the influence of a college professor (Dr. Dallas Willard) to redirect my path toward ministry.

My wife Gwen and I married in 1971. (I often tell people that I married way over my head.) As newlyweds we moved 1500 miles from family and friends to go to Dallas Seminary. At Dallas, through the influence of Dr. Howard Hendricks, I developed a passion for Christian leadership, and for counseling and family ministry. These areas have not only marked my ministry, they have enriched my own family. Gwen and I have three sons and six grandchildren, all living in Arizona. The greatest joy of our life together has been learning how the grace of God is expressed in and through our family.

Following seminary, I served as Executive Pastor at Scottsdale Bible Church in Arizona for 14 years. After completing a doctorate at Biola University in counseling and family ministry, I left church ministry to help start Phoenix Seminary. I serve as Vice President and Professor at the seminary for nine years.
I came to Faith Bible Church in 2002 to serve as Executive Pastor. My responsibilities include staff oversight and ministry development. I also have the privilege of teaching and counseling marriages and families.
